Job Description:

The Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority (KCTA) was created by the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners in late 2005. A nine-member KCTA Board was appointed by the County in January 2006. The purpose of the KCTA is to integrate the public transportation services into a single County-wide system (the KCTA). In the interim, public transportation services in Kalamazoo County are governed, operated and funded by a cooperative arrangement between the Kalamazoo County Transportation Authority, the City of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Transit Authority Board, utilizing available local, state and federal funds. Currently, fixed route bus service is provided by the City of Kalamazoo. Demand response services are the responsibility of Kalamazoo County which contracts with the City to operate these programs. The combined system’s annual ridership is approximately 3,000,000. The Kalamazoo County Transportation Plan calls for all aspects of public transportation KCTA, including transit operations to be assumed by the KCTA by the end of 2013.

The KCTA Board will appoint the Executive Director. His or her responsibilities are to assist the Board to develop and then to implement proper and sound policies, to help enhance community support for regional public transportation, to manage KCTA’s transition into a premier, single, county-wide transportation agency and then to manage its day-to-day operations. KCTA services a population of 250K in an area of 676 square miles.

Requires the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in business or public administration (Master's degree preferred) combined with at least five years of management experience preferably in public transit. We are looking for a visionary leader who knows public transit and is willing and able to assist local leaders in securing long-term community support for public transit. Must have proven ability to communicate effectively with a policy board, elected officials, employees, employee unions, outside local/state/federal agencies, news media, and the general public.
