Organization: La Plata, Maryland Salary: Open DOQ Close Date: February 16, 2007 Job Description: LA PLATA, MARYLAND (Growing population of about 9,500) TOWN MANAGER Compensation: Salary and benefits are negotiable and are anticipated to be highly competitive. La Plata, Maryland is located in Charles County on Maryland’s southern peninsula. La Plata, the Charles County seat, is ideally situated 71 miles from Baltimore and 32 miles from Washington, DC and provides easy access to all the area’s amenities. Although rural in ambiance, the region is among the fastest growing in the country. La Plata is a great community to live in. It offers a progressive school system, a full array of housing options and plenty of recreational opportunities. The Town of La Plata was incorporated in 1888. La Plata’s charter provides for all legislative powers to be vested in the Town Council which consists of a directly elected Mayor and four (4) Council members elected by Ward to four (4) year terms. The Town Manager is chosen by the Council on the basis of professional qualifications and is responsible for implementing Council policy and managing the day-to-day municipal operations. The Town provides a wide array of services including police, water and sewer. It has 48 full-time employees and functions on a current budget of $8.4M (all funds). Requires a proven local government manager who is able to provide strong, results oriented, consistent and fair leadership to an established and well-regarded management team. Requires significant and increasingly responsible broad range local governmental management experience; prefer the equivalent of a Master’s degree in Public or Business Administration.
