Oak Park is a thriving, transit-rich community of about 52,000 located immediately west of Chicago on a major interstate/expressway, only 20 minutes from the downtown �Loop� and �Magnificent Mile.� Oak Park is a first-ring suburb that has two light-rail lines and one heavy-rail line to Chicago. The Village of Oak Park has home rule powers under the Illinois Constitution and is governed by a seven-member, nonpartisan Board of Trustees elected to four-year staggered terms. All members are elected at-large. The Village President is directly elected. The Village Manager is appointed by the Board to an indefinite term. The Village Attorney is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Village Manager. The Village Attorney oversees the Law Department which is responsible for the coordination of all legal matters for the Village of Oak Park. It provides internal services to other Village Departments in the form of legal counsel with an emphasis on services to the Village President and Board of Trustees, the Village Manager�s Office and Department Directors. Departmental personnel include the Village Attorney, Assistant Village Attorney, a Legal Secretary and a Claims Administrator.

Minimum qualifications are a Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and membership in the State Bar of Illinois combined with at least seven (7) years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal or related government law including some trial experience. Prefer some supervisory experience. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
