GROWTH AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Volusia County, Florida (population 509,341) is seated in DeLand. The County is home to a number of public and private colleges and universities (including Stetson, Embry Riddle and Bethune Cookman), beautiful Atlantic beaches, an excellent public school system, and outstanding state and local parks. The County is bordered by the St. Johns River on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. It is easily accessible to Daytona Beach and the Orlando metropolitan areas. Cost of living, compared to other areas in Florida, is very reasonable.

Volusia County has a highly stable Council/Manager form of government with approximately 3,100 full-time and 800 part-time/seasonal employees. The Growth and Resources Management Director is one of the most highly visible department heads and oversees some of the County’s most critical and sensitive functions including Environmental Management, Planning and Development, Leisure Services, Building and Zoning and Land Acquisition and Management. The Department has 272 FTE’s and a current budget of nearly $53 million.

Requires the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree in Planning, Business or Public Administration, or related field and five (5) years of local government experience including significant management level experience preferably gained in a rapid growth community. Must be an excellent manager with a comprehensive and current understanding of the functions listed above and how they are applied in a fast-growing community.
