Job Description:

With a population of 22,160 (2020 estimate), Corinth is a growing and prosperous community with outstanding potential. The community is ideally located along Interstate Highway 35E, with excellent access to Dallas (approximately 30 minutes), Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (approximately 30 minutes) and Fort Worth (approximately 45 minutes).

Operating under a council-manager form of government, Corinth is known throughout the North Texas Region for providing its businesses and residents with an exceptional quality of life, first-class schools, outstanding recreational facilities, and safe neighborhoods.

Corinth spans approximately eight square miles. Several large undeveloped tracts of land that are prime for commercial and mixed-use development, including high-profile opportunities, are within and around the community's emerging downtown district, Agora.

As growth from Dallas and Fort-Worth continues to march northward, Corinth will find itself in a most ideal position at the center of the North Texas Region. High-performing institutions of higher learning, including the community's very own North-Central Texas College (Corinth Campus), the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, provide an extremely diverse, highly skilled, and talented labor pool. A competitive workforce, combined with a strong vision for Corinth's future, will result in growth requiring planning and managed growth for many years to come.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Planning and Development Director is responsible for developing and implementing plans, policies, and programs to guide the residential and commercial development in the City while assuring compliance to state and federal regulations and City policies and procedures. The Planning and Development Department includes Engineering, Code Enforcement, and Permitting divisions. The Planning and Development Director collaborates with the Corinth Economic Development Director as projects progress and project managers and owners require guidance through the regulatory process.

Corinth’s current vision for sustainable growth and development is in the Strategic Plan (2018) and the Comprehensive Plan (2020). The shared vision articulated in those plans will continue to evolve and will require the oversight and advice of the Director over time. In addition to guiding the continual updating of plans and resource requirements for all aspects of the City’s future, the position is key to balancing City service levels with customer needs.

As a member of the Executive Management Team, the next Planning and Development Director is also expected to cultivate, nurture, and sustain strong relationships with appointed officials, business owners, elected officials, and other stakeholders of the community that are framed by the City's vision, values, and interests.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences, Urban Planning, Business or Public Administration AND five years’ experience in community planning and development program management, including supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the private sector is a plus. A Master’s degree in Planning, AICP status, or CNUA is preferred.

It is crucial that the Planning and Development Director is an assertive leader whose skills include the ability to earn respect and trust from divergent constituents and the skill to lead them to a consensus on sensitive issues. Must be an articulate self-starter and have excellent communication skills.

The salary range for this position is $118,061 (minimum) to $141,669 (mid-point) annually, with the actual starting salary based on experience and qualifications. In addition, the City provides a highly competitive and excellent benefits package that includes:

• A retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with a 7% matching ratio of 2 to 1 at retirement.
• The City also offers a deferred compensation 457 plan which the City matches at 10 percent of contributions to a 401(a) qualified plan.
• Apart from Medicare, the City does not participate in Social Security.
