Organization: City of Evanston, Illinois Salary: The current salary range is $96,720 to $138,320. Close Date: Open until Filled Job Description: The City of Evanston, Illinois (est. population 76,406) is ideally situated along the shores of Lake Michigan and considered part of Chicago's North Shore region. The City is a culturally diverse and historically significant community with a vibrant downtown, complete with numerous retail establishments and a variety of restaurants. Evanston is home to Northwestern University and an excellent public school system. Evanston has a Council-Manager form of government and maintains an excellent credit rating. The Finance Director is responsible for all financial activities of the City and prepares the annual budget and Capital Improvements Program, with review and approval of the City Manager, the comprehensive financial report, collects and accounts for revenues, controls purchasing expenditures, and invests City funds. The Finance Department is divided into five divisions that include Revenue, Accounting, Payroll, Purchasing/Accounts Payable and Administrative Adjudication. The Director serves as the primary advisor to the City Manager and City Council on all fiscal policy matters. The total projected budget for FY 2008-2009 is $213,674,000, with a general fund budget of $94,562,000. The staff consists of approximately 29.5 employees. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related discipline and eight to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in government/municipal finance administration or accounting, with at least five years of supervisory and upper management responsibility. A master's degree and /or CPA designation is preferred. Compensation: The current salary range is $96,720 to $138,320.
