DIRECTOR OF RECREATION, PARKS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES POSITION
The City of Alexandria is in Norther Virginia bordered by the District of Columbia, Potomac River, Arlington & Fairfax Counties. Part of the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area and the 6th largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities -The Director will lead a vibrant department with a team of 500 staff (about 150 FT) that provides services that are the heart and soul of the City. The Director manages day-to-day work, strategic planning, community engagement, citywide festivals, development of a new park and negotiating partnerships for activities and facilities. Serves as part of executive team with the City Manager and other departments. Works with P&R Commission, Arts Commission, Waterfront Commission, Beautification Commission. QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree required with 10 years management experience with a Parks & Recreation Department as a senior manager. Preferred Master with 15 yr exp.
